East Haven ~ Town Center

While the Town Center is not physically the geographical center of town, it is the hub of town's administrative services and location of the Town Hall, Fire Department Headquarters, Hagaman Memorial Library, Police Department and Public Works Department. The former East Haven High School now houses the East Haven Academy, an acclaimed magnet school, the East Haven Historical Society, and a teen center. The Center is also the town's central business district with a host of shopping opportunities. Several parks throughout the area offer plenty of places for recreation, a leisurely walk or to just sit and enjoy the outdoors.

A great sense of history is evident throughout the Center whose focal point is the Town Green. The town's most recognizable landmark is the circa 1774 Old Stone Church whose steeple can be viewed from afar. The Green is an historic landmark in itself as the spot where General Lafayette set up camp during the Revolutionary War. A monument on the site marks the occurrence. A cannon used in the War of 1812 also makes its home on the tree-lined Green.

The Green is the site of annual events such as the Fall Festival which is a day-long celebration featuring crafts, food and music held every September. During the summer, outdoor concerts under the stars offer a lovely way to spend a summer evening.

Residential areas here are predominantly older homes from the turn-of-the-century through the early 1940s set along tree-lined streets. Residents in these charming neighborhoods enjoy being within walking distance to shopping, schools, library, parks, buses and the Green.
